Remembering Darlene
Darlene Naomi Nakamura Wright, 57, passed away peacefully at her home in Boise on February 5, 2026 - a date that marked both her final day and her 57th birthday. It was a characteristically well-timed exit for a woman who always knew how to make an entrance and light up a room.
Born in Los Angeles in 1969 to Raymond and Judith Nakamura, Darlene was raised in Monterey Park and attended Taft High School. On October 3, 1992, she married Eric Wright in Reno, Nevada, beginning a 33-year journey defined by deep devotion and a shared sense of humor.
Darlene’s professional life was a reflection of her enormous heart. After attending Humboldt State University, she dedicated herself to caregiving through social services, elderly care, and the Boys and Girls Club. She even co-owned a dog daycare before stepping into her most cherished role: the centerpiece and "lynchpin" of her family. As a homemaker for her four children, she managed the chaos of a busy household with a grace and wit that made the difficult look easy.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Eric Wright; her step-son Steven (and his wife Sarah) and grandchildren Aria, Eliaz, and Aster; her son Ian (and his wife Allison) and grandchild Amara; her children Thomas, Aaron, and Rhiannon; and her brothers Derek and Steven. She also leaves behind a vast network of friends and relatives who were touched by her shining light.
In keeping with her spirit, Darlene didn’t want a somber funeral – she famously insisted she could put the "fun" back into the word. To honor that wish, a Celebration of Life party was held on March 8th. Thank you to all who came to share in the stories, laughter, and joy she brought into the world.
Darlene was the heart of everything around her. While the world is a little quieter without her, her laughter remains a permanent part of those who knew her.
